Why We Are Raising $1,000,000 To Help Provide Rapid Relief For Women Desperately Suffering From Lichen Sclerosus
The faster we can collect the needed funds, the faster we can help provide rapid relief for women suffering from lichen sclerosus.
Lichen sclerosus is a silent nightmare for women, making walking and sex alarmingly painful. Ever heard of it? Most haven’t, and that’s the problem.
My name is Dr. Alexandra Runnels, a Gynecologist at the Institute for Lichen Sclerosus & Vulval Health.
Our organization is raising $1,000,000 for a clinical study to develop mainstream treatments for women with lichen sclerosus. Our goal is rapid relief for women all over the world.

Overview
What is Lichen Sclerosus?
Imagine this: you wake up in the morning and just walking from your bed to the bathroom feels like your skin in your genital area is tearing apart with each step. The cracking and bleeding in your inner thighs feels unbearable.
You feel isolated because you can't do simple things with friends and family. A walk in the park, a quick grocery run, or even just moving around your home feels almost impossible.
And then there’s intimacy. The tearing pain makes sexual intercourse agonizing. Your pubic area often feels like it’s on fire. You have a secret condition you find hard to explain to your partner.
Managing lichen sclerosus is difficult with today’s typical treatment options. Special creams, ointments, pain relievers, and changing your clothing to reduce friction hardly relieve the severe burning, fissures, ulcerations, cracking, bleeding, and blisters.
Current mainstream treatment options do little for the long-term scarring, thickening skin, and hardening. They do little to help women with lichen sclerosus sleep through the constant discomfort every night.
The Problem
10 Facts About Lichen Sclerosus
- Chronic Condition: Lichen sclerosus is a chronic skin condition targeting women's genital areas.
- Mobility Issues: Severe pain, cracking, and bleeding make everyday activities nearly impossible.
- Extreme Cases: Some women are confined to wheelchairs or beds due to pain.
- Lack of Awareness: The sensitive nature of the condition means it doesn't get the attention it needs.
- Emotional Impact: Simple activities become significant challenges, causing embarrassment and hopelessness.
- Lack of Clarity: Women often feel confused and frustrated by unclear answers or ineffective treatments.
- Communication Barriers: Discussing the condition with a spouse or partner is difficult.
- Medical System Failures: Lack of understanding within the medical community leads to ineffective treatments.
- Stigma and Shame: The intimate nature of the condition often causes stigma and shame, preventing women from seeking help.
- Research Funding: There is a significant lack of research and funding, hindering better treatments.
The Solution
Clinical Study and Call for Donations
We are raising $1,000,000 for a clinical study to develop effective treatments for lichen sclerosus. This study aims to improve the quality of life for women suffering from this debilitating condition.
The usual funding from the pharmaceutical companies is lacking: there is no huge money to be made. So, our non-profit aims to raise the large sums needed to provide free care, free lab testing, and to pay the expert physicians used to conduct the research as well as the mathematicians and ancillary physician assistants.
For example, to get flibanserin approved (a drug to help women with sexual function) took close to a billion dollars (a thousand millions) to conduct the research–but that is a prescription drug that can be sold for profit, stock can be sold, the research dollars can be recovered. In contrast, many of the therapies that have shown promise for lichen sclerosus do not employ any prescription drug–so our non-profit is needed to move that research forward in the most effective and rapid way.
